Anagallis 'Skylover' Blue Pimpernel

Be the next gardener dazzled by the memorable blooms of this ‘Skylover’ Anagallis, which is commonly known as ‘Blue Pimpernel’.

Pretty cornflower-blue flowerheads grow in abundance from spreading stems to create a carpet of flowers, perfect for rockery or alpine gardens, adding interest throughout the summer.

The colourful display on each flower needs to be seen to be believed – five blue-purple petals brighten to lilac, then white towards the centre, acting as a bed for a handful of yellow central stamens.

This classy perennial boasts a low, branching habit, ideal for drifting at the very front of borders, or even for filling out a hanging basket, thanks to the healthy and unique foliage.

Care Guide

Planting advice

• Unpack plugs immediately and stand them in water for an hour.
• If you can’t do this, they can sit in their mini greenhouse for a week if upright and not too wet.
• Plugs may be slightly dry or yellow after being in a dark box in the post, but they’ll quickly recover.
• Put them somewhere warm, light and airy such as a windowsill or greenhouse.
• When potting on, handle plugs carefully. Pot on using our 9cm pots in Shuttle Trays, using good multi-purpose compost.
• Alternatively plant straight into baskets and grow on for a week or two before hanging up.
• Give your plants a good water initially, then only when the top compost starts to dry. They don’t like to be left in standing water.
• Feed using a high-potash feed such as Blooming Fast Superior Soluble Fertiliser for Flowers & Fruits, to encourage flowering.
• Deadhead when flowers fade to encourage more flowers.

Aftercare advice

• Regular maintenance and watering are essential to grow fabulous baskets that last the whole season.
• Check and water baskets every day in summer, unless the compost is wet.
• Aim to keep the compost moist but not soggy and avoid wetting the foliage and flowers.
• From March to June, apply a general-purpose liquid fertiliser once a week.

We send most of our orders via a fully tracked courier service with Yodel. We will send you a tracking link as soon as your order has been dispatched. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, we will not require a signature on delivery, and we ask out couriers to leave your item in a safe place ad your delivery address.
