Description

A delightful flowering almond tree with sweet-tasting nuts and impressive springtime blossom.

This ornamental tree produces light pink aromatic flowers in spring, attracting pollinators, before making way for the almonds, which can be picked towards the tail end of summer. The tree itself is spreading and boasts an excellent resistant to disease.

Grafted onto a peach rootstock, this bare root tree should start cropping after two years of growth, with the best yields coming from the third year, and onwards. Almonds are not only delicious, with an earthy and nutty flavour, but are also good for you, being rich in healthy fats, antioxidants, vitamins and more!

Although you do not need to plant this self-fertile tree near other varieties for almonds to be produced, you may still wish to do so as this can lead to heavier harvests.

Supplied as a bare root almond tree, on a semi-dwarfing rootstock.

Top Tips
  • Keep well-watered, and if growing in a pot, use a good quality, soil-based compost.
  • Care Information
    • On receipt, soak the roots in water for at least two hours, overnight is better. If you can't plant straight away, they should be fine for up to a week if left in a cool, dark, frost-free place - keep the bag around the roots with some water inside.
    • Dig a hole twice the width of the roots, forking over the bottom to loosen the soil, and add some good quality fertiliser such as Blood Fish & Bone - be sure to wash your hands afterwards!
    • Aim to plant at the same depth as the soil mark on the trunk.
    • Holding the tree or plant upright in position with one hand, slowly backfill the hole with soil, and gently shake the plant, so the soil falls back around the roots.
    • Use your heel to compact the soil around the plant to ensure good contact around the roots.
If you're planting into pots, place some old rocks, stones or gravel in the bottom of the pot for drainage and ballast.
    • No special pruning is required, but If side branches form, remove them in winter.
