Description

Enjoy homegrown fruit even in those smaller spaces of your garden with Pear 'Little Conference'. Compact, productive and incredibly easy to grow... Fresh, juicy pears are within reach!

The beauty of 'Little Conference' is its neat size and reliability. Grown on a dwarfing rootstock, it stays compact while still producing full-sized fruit. So even if you've only got a small garden, courtyard or balcony, you can enjoy your very own pear tree in a pot.

The fruits are long, sweet and juicy, with a clean white flesh that melts in the mouth. Pick them from September when they're sun-ripened and you'll taste why 'Conference' has been a top choice for generations.

Plus, 'Little Conference' is largely self-fertile, so will crop even without another pear tree nearby. That's a huge bonus if space is tight and you don't want your patio taken over by fruiting trees.

If you want to grow your own fruit, save money on supermarket pears and enjoy the satisfaction of picking fresh produce straight from your patio, this is your chance.

Supplied as an established plant in a 4.5L pot, 80-110cm tall, ready to plant.

Top Tips
  • Plant patio fruit trees in containers 45-50cm (18-20in) in diameter, holding at least 30 litres of good quality compost such as John Innes No.3. Alternatively plant them in any well-drained soil in a sheltered sunny position.
Care Information
  • Plant fruit trees at their original soil level, firm them into the ground and water well.
  • Fruit trees grown in pots will need watering and feeding more regularly than those planted in the ground.
  • To avoid the roots becoming pot bound, re-pot every year or alternate years after leaves have fallen in autumn.
  • Once in its final pot, a plant can be root-pruned every other year with 30 per cent of the compost refreshed. In between, replace the top couple of inches of compost.
  • A good mulch will help to retain water and therefore reduce the need to water as frequently, and will prevent weeds from competing
  • Your pear tree will not need drastic pruning, just remove any crossing or damaged branches. Any lower branches can be removed if you want to give you a clear trunk. Otherwise in subsequent seasons cut back any strongly growing branches by one third to promote the formation of fruiting spurs.
