Description

This is your chance to pick your very own bumper crop of incredibly tasty blueberries straight from your patio pot - a delightful outcome from your busy gardening efforts!

Blueberries are known as superfoods, and are believed to carry all manner of health benefits. Packed full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, they not only taste scrumptious, but are very good for you too!

This variety even provides long-lasting interest to your garden with wonderfully fragrant springtime white blossom, followed by the all-important delicious fruits in summer. The show does not stop there, as in the autumn, the dark green foliage provides a bright flourish of scarlet before falling in the winter.

'Ozark Blue' is one of the most popular blueberry varieties and a real favourite among chefs. A late-cropper, it will grow an abundance of delicious fruits in August and September, when most others are reaching the tail end of their season. The large and light blue shaded berries boast an instensely sweet flavour perfect for eating fresh from the bush, while also being a welcome addition to cakes, desserts, and jams.

An even more bountiful crop can be seen when grown near other blueberry bushes, so why not plant with earlier-fruiting varieties to ensure a constant supply of berries from the middle of summer through to early autumn days?

When planting out, remember to use ericaceous compost, which has a slightly acidic pH, as all blueberries are lime intolerant. Fully hardy, they will grow well throughout the UK, producing a stronger bounty of fruits when placed in a warm, sheltered position of the garden.

Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, ready for planting.

Top Tips
  • While tolerant of shade, blueberries crop better in the sun.

Care Information
  • Cover plants with netting when in fruit, otherwise you'll just end up feeding the birds, and not you!
  • Pick over the plants several times as not all the fruit ripens at the same time.
  • Fruits can be left on the bush for a few more days after they turn blue, leading to a more intense and complex flavour, when they will also easily pull away from the cluster.
  • Although self-fertile and able to produce a good crop on their own, a great yield of blueberries can be seen if planted near another variety.
