Avocado Tree 'Hass' gives gardeners something far more exciting than an everyday houseplant. This is the much-loved avocado variety associated with rich, creamy fruits and dark, bumpy skins, now supplied as an established young plant for anyone who wants to try growing something unique.

The glossy green foliage, upright habit and neat young trunk give it a smart, exotic look, making it a handsome feature for a bright room, conservatory, greenhouse or sheltered patio through summer.

With the right conditions, mature plants can flower from late spring into early summer and may produce fruit. Warmth, bright light, humidity, space and patience all matter, especially in the UK, where avocado growing is more of a rewarding long-term project than a quick harvest.

Grow in a pot so the plant can enjoy warm outdoor conditions from late May to September, then move it back into a frost-free, bright position before temperatures fall. Water regularly in active growth, avoid cold draughts and give it room to develop.

Supplied as an established plant in a 1.5 litre pot, already 65-90cm tall, ready to grow.

Top Tips

Humidity and light are important if you hope to produce any fruit. A large, humid greenhouse or warm conservatory may be your best option.

Care Information

Growing Advice for Avocado:

Keep your Avocado tree potted, and grow in a bright, sunny position.
The avocado dislikes soil that is either excessively wet or dry. Water freely in summer and allow the top 1cm or so to dry out before watering again.
Water less frequently in winter and keep plants at around 13-18C.
Feed with a general-purpose liquid houseplant feed every seven to ten days during the spring and summer and once every 2 months at other times.

Pruning Advice for Avocado:

Plants may become lanky and may need pinching back from time to time.
Plants which have grown too large will usually respond well to hard pruning.

Delivery Information

Our experienced team at the nursery will always carefully package and send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive once you receive and plant them. Although most plants are extremely tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme of weather conditions, we always avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme frosts or heat is forecast. We also avoid dispatching orders over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. If you have ordered a 'pre-order' item, these will be sent out as soon as possible after the quoted dispatch date and we generally ship your entire order with any pre-ordered items. Once your order has been dispatched, we will send you an email with details on how you can track it.

We send most of our orders via a fully tracked courier service with Yodel. We will send you a tracking link as soon as your order has been dispatched. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, we will not require a signature on delivery, and we ask out couriers to leave your item in a safe place ad your delivery address.

If you have delivery instruction and require our courier to leave your item in a specific place, please let us know - there is an option to leave a message for the courier at the checkout.

For smaller and single-item orders, we may send these via the post with Royal Mail - Tracking will not be available for orders sent via this method.
