Description

Growing your own herbs changes how you cook, and this Chef's Favourite Herb Collection is designed to make that journey simple, rewarding and genuinely exciting. By combining mint, parsley and sage, this collection delivers everyday flavour with plants that are reliable, generous and easy to grow.

Each herb brings something special. Mint offers refreshing lift for drinks, desserts and summer dishes. Curly parsley adds fresh, clean flavour and visual appeal to countless meals. English sage delivers rich, savoury depth that works beautifully with roasts, sauces and seasonal cooking.

These herbs establish quickly and keep producing fresh growth, giving you regular harvests rather than one off cuts. They suit gardeners of all experience levels and bring real satisfaction as plants you can see, smell, touch and taste. There is also something deeply rewarding about knowing exactly where your food has come from.

Beyond the kitchen, this collection adds life to your garden. Fragrant foliage, textured leaves and pollinator friendly flowers make it a pleasure to grow as well as use. For gardeners who want flavour, function and enjoyment rolled into one easy collection, this is a brilliant place to begin.

Supplied as a set of 18 plug plants, including six of each herb named, ready to grow on and plant out.

Top Tips
  • Begin harvesting leaves once the plant is well established, typically a few weeks after planting.
  • Pick leaves as needed, starting with the outer stems to encourage continuous growth.
  • Use sharp scissors or your fingers to gently snip the leaves.
  • Avoid harvesting more than one-third of the plant at a time to maintain its vigour.
Care Information
  • Plant your plug plants in spring or early summer once the risk of frost has passed.
  • Choose well-drained, moist soil enriched with organic matter like compost.
  • Loosen the soil, remove weeds, and enrich it with compost or well-rotted manure.
  • Space plants about 30cm apart to allow for spreading growth.
  • Dig a hole slightly larger than the plug. Place the plug plant in the hole and gently firm the soil around it.
  • Water thoroughly after planting to help the roots establish.

For pot growing:

  • Use a pot with a diameter of at least 20cm or group multiple plants in a larger container.
  • Ensure the pot has drainage holes and add a layer of gravel or crocks at the bottom.
  • Fill the pot with multipurpose compost mixed with grit for drainage.
  • Place the plug plants in the pot, firm gently, and water well.

Caring:

  • Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water more frequently during hot or dry weather.
  • Feed with a general-purpose liquid fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season to encourage lush growth.
  • Regularly trim back stems to prevent the plant from becoming woody and encourage fresh, new growth.
  • Remove any flower buds as they appear to prolong the production of leaves.
