Description

Bring a touch of romance to your summer garden with the exceptional Hydrangea 'Magical Vesuvio' shrub.

Masses of big, conical-shaped blooms erupt in late summer, first appearing creamy white before evolving to a drawing shade of pale pink, before reaching a rich reddish shade - go on a journey of colour! Watch as the colours change from the vase of each flower head, stretching upwards, offering you a two-tone effect.

The flowers coat a plant of dark green ovate leaves, which grow from dark reddish-brown stems. A magnificent feature plant for beds and borders in the garden or when potted up and placed on your patio or decking. Alternatively, plant in a group for stunning, long season flowering displays.

Hardy and easy to grow, with deciduous foliage that drops from autumn, making way for fresh growth come the following spring.

Hydrangeas thrive in neutral to acidic, free-draining soil in a sunny or part-shaded spot. With big flower clusters, filling your summer beds, borders or patio pots with wonderful colour.

Supplied as an established plant in a 3 litre pot, ready to plant.

Top Tips
To extend seasonal interest, leave some flowerheads on the plants over winter, where they will look gorgeous covered with frost and they will provide shelter for overwintering wildlife.
Care Information
  • These plants are at their best in moist soil as long as it is well-drained, in a sunny or partially shaded space.
  • The more sun the plant gets, the better the colour. This is a moisture-loving plant, so remember to water it regularly and deeply.
  • This is a hardy plant, but frost can cause damage to young buds, reducing the number of flowers, so protect your plant with fleece if freezing weather is likely.
  • Pruning is generally best carried out in early spring. A general tidy-up is usually all that is needed and consists of removing the dead bloom from each stem, cutting back to the first strong, healthy pair of buds down from the faded flower.
  • As hydrangeas flower on the previous year's growth, in spring cut out one or two of the oldest stems at the base to encourage the production of new, replacement growth that will carry more flowers.
