Description

The hydrangea that flowers so impressively, even in tighter spaces! 'Million Stars Sirius Blue' blooms in abundance, despite being a neat, compact plant - perfect for on the patio.

This exciting new lacecap hybrid has been bred from serrata and macrophylla types, for a lovely blend of refined flower shape, generous bloom size and strong overall impact. The result is a compact shrub with a far richer flowering display than many traditional lacecap varieties, making it especially useful where space is limited but expectations are high.

The blue, star-like flowers open across the plant in impressive numbers, creating a cool, elegant show that looks superb in decorative containers, smaller borders and courtyard-style gardens. Place it near a seating area, doorway or terrace and those delicate flower details can be enjoyed up close.

Its naturally tidy, well-branched habit helps it form a polished feature without becoming too large or unruly. Grow in sun or partial shade, keep watered during dry spells, and use ericaceous compost or acidic soil to encourage the strongest blue tones.

Supplied as an established plant in a 17cm pot, ready to plant.

Top Tips
  • Extend the season of interest by leaving some flowerheads on the plants over winter, where they will look gorgeous covered with frost and they will provide shelter for overwintering wildlife.
Care Information
  • Just plant in position, water well, and add some fertiliser – they will burst into growth and flower profusely all summer!
  • These plants are at their best in moist soil as long as it is well-drained, in sun or part shade. The more sun the plant gets, the better the flower colour. A moisture-loving plant, remember to water regularly and deeply.
  • Hardy in the UK, frost can cause a lot of damage to young buds, reducing the number of flowers, so protect your plant with fleece if freezing weather is likely.
  • Pruning is generally best carried out in early spring. A general tidy-up is usually all that is needed and consists of removing the dead bloom from each stem, cutting back to the first strong, healthy pair of buds down from the faded flower.
  • As this hydrangea flowers on the previous year's growth, in spring cut out 1 or 2 of the oldest stems at the base to encourage the production of new, replacement growth that will carry more flowers.
