Description

Bring year-round colour and impact to your garden with Photinia 'Red Robin', a vigorous evergreen shrub loved for its stunning fiery foliage. In spring and summer, its glossy bright red leaves create an unmissable display, gradually transforming into rich oranges, purples, and deep green as they mature. Even in the colder months, new shoots retain a deep red glow, ensuring colour and interest all year round.

Not just a beautiful ornamental shrub, 'Red Robin' is a fast-growing, dense hedging plant, making it perfect for privacy, screening, or adding structure to your garden. In spring, clusters of delicate white flowers may appear, sometimes followed by red berries, but it's the bold blood-red foliage that truly steals the show - one of the earliest bursts of colour in the garden each year.

Versatile and easy to grow, it thrives in most soils, whether planted as a hedge, used for screening, or as a striking standalone feature. With an impressive growth rate of up to 30cm a year, this shrub fills out quickly and responds well to pruning, making it suitable for gardens of all sizes.

Supplied as a set of 48 established plants in 8cm pots, ready to plant.

Top Tips
Keep plants well-watered to avoid leaf drop in the summer.
Care Information
  • Your Photinia will grow approx 30cm each year, and should be trimmed in spring and summer or can be left informal, just being trimmed down when needed.
  • Photinia prefers a sunny site but will tolerate partial shade and although frost hardy young plants should be protected in winter until established.

To plant:

  • Space plants approx 0.75-1m (2.5-3ft)
  • Water your potted plant well
  • Dig a hole a little deeper and 3 x wider than the nursery pot
  • Add a soil conditioner such as well rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary
  • Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots
  • Place your plant in the hole at the same level at the pot
  • Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling)
  • Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball
  • Water well
  • Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc
