Description

Wisteria 'Amethyst Falls' is the compact wisteria that can flower from its very first year, rather than making you wait five to ten years!

Perfect for porches, pergolas and archways, 'Amethyst Falls' produces cascades of richly coloured purple blooms with a wonderful fragrance from May, often flowering in its first season.

Unlike more vigorous varieties that may take five to ten years to bloom and can eventually reach more than 10m, this compact American wisteria grows to a much more manageable 3m and flowers reliably from an early age.

Better still, it can repeat flower throughout summer, delivering almost four months of beautiful colour and scent each year.

Non-invasive, easy to manage and ideal for smaller gardens or large containers, it performs best in a sunny position and can provide decades of spectacular seasonal interest.

Supplied as an established plant in a 15cm pot, ready for immediate planting. Please note: Harmful if eaten by humans or pets.

Top Tips
  • Plant on a sunny wall for the best results.
  • Tie in the fast growing tendrils during summer and prune back unwanted growth.
Care Information
  • Although capable of rapid growth, wisterias are easily restricted by pruning and can even be trained as a small standard tree.
  • As wisterias are long lived, site is important, so pick somewhere that your plant will be happy. Plants like moist but well-drained, humus-rich soil in sun or light shade. As blossom can be damaged by late frosts, it is advisable to plant in a sheltered spot.
  • If growing on a wall, tie into horizontal wire supports, then once a permanent framework has been established ongoing pruning is simple - just prune back extension growths from the main branches to 4-6 leaves in late July or early August and then back to 3-4 buds in midwinter.
  • Provide the twining stems with an appropriate and sturdy support, such as strong trellis or wires attached to walls and pergolas.
