Description

Three colourful Penstemons give sunny borders a long season of upright blooms and cottage garden charm.

This Penstemon Collection brings together three beautiful varieties, each producing bell-shaped flowers on short, upright spikes through summer and autumn. The mix includes plum-purple, pale pink and bright purple blooms, all with attractive throat markings.

These classic perennials look superb in beds and borders, especially planted among ornamental grasses, hardy perennials and relaxed cottage garden schemes. They bring height without looking heavy, adding colour, movement and a naturally elegant feel over many weeks.

Easy to grow in well-drained soil, Penstemons are a brilliant choice for beginners and experienced gardeners alike. The clumps mature over time, building stronger displays in future seasons. Occasional deadheading helps prolong flowering, while a dry mulch in late autumn can help protect the roots through colder weather. The flowers also cut well for fresh indoor arrangements.

Supplied as three established plants in 9cm pots, one each of 'Pensham Plum Jerkum', 'Hartwegii Strawberry and Cream' and 'Pensham Czar', ready to plant.

Care Information

Plants are best planted out in the summer, especially if your soil is clay as they dislike winter wet.
Penstemons do best in a warm, sunny position and are drought tolerant once established.
When planting, add well-rotted manure or compost to the planting hole.
Give your plants a good water initially, then only when the top compost starts to dry. They don't like to be left in standing water.
Plant approx. 20cm (8in) apart to allow them room to grow.
Water well until established.
Feed using a high-potash feed such as Blooming Fast Superior Soluble Fertiliser for Flowers & Fruits, to encourage flowering.
Dead-head when flowers fade to encourage more flowers.

Delivery Information

Our experienced team at the nursery will always carefully package and send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive once you receive and plant them. Although most plants are extremely tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme of weather conditions, we always avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme frosts or heat is forecast. We also avoid dispatching orders over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. If you have ordered a 'pre-order' item, these will be sent out as soon as possible after the quoted dispatch date and we generally ship your entire order with any pre-ordered items. Once your order has been dispatched, we will send you an email with details on how you can track it.

We send most of our orders via a fully tracked courier service with Yodel. We will send you a tracking link as soon as your order has been dispatched. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, we will not require a signature on delivery, and we ask out couriers to leave your item in a safe place ad your delivery address.

If you have delivery instruction and require our courier to leave your item in a specific place, please let us know - there is an option to leave a message for the courier at the checkout.

For smaller and single-item orders, we may send these via the post with Royal Mail - Tracking will not be available for orders sent via this method.
