Description

Bring bold late-summer colour to your garden with this superb Rudbeckia hirta Collection. Supplied as three established plants, with three distinctive Black-Eyed Susan varieties, each chosen for strong colour, open daisy blooms and brilliant garden presence.

The collection creates a warm, glowing display across pots, borders and mixed planting schemes. Golden-yellow flowers, rich orange tones, mahogany shades, chocolate centres and unusual greenish-yellow eyes all work together to create a look that feels sunny and full of life.

Rudbeckias are especially useful when gardens need a fresh burst of colour later in the season. Their long-lasting flowers help carry displays from high summer into autumn, while bees and butterflies enjoy the open, pollinator-friendly blooms.

The sturdy stems also make this a cracking collection for cut flowers. Plant them together for a bold, naturalistic look, or use them separately to add repeated pockets of colour through patio pots, cottage garden borders and sunny late-season displays.

Supplied as a set of three established plants in 3 litre pots, ready to plant. Including one each of the following three varieties:

  • Rudbeckia 'Cappuccino': This plant is the richest and most dramatic of the trio, with mahogany, orange and gold blooms, chocolate centres, RHS Award of Garden Merit status and excellent pollinator appeal.
  • Rudbeckia 'Prairie Sun': This plant is the freshest and brightest of the collection, producing huge golden-yellow daisy flowers with distinctive greenish-yellow eyes for a sunny twist on classic Rudbeckia colour.
  • Rudbeckia 'Pawnee Spirit': This plant is bold, cheerful and vibrant, with large golden-yellow blooms, deep chocolate-brown centres, strong cut flower value and easy colour for pots and borders.
Top Tips
Rudbeckia harmonises perfectly in large drifts in a prairie-planting style with grasses such as fountain grass.
Care Information

Planting Advice for Rudbeckia:

  • For best results grow in moist, fertile soil that drains well, or in pots in good quality compost, in full sun or semi shade.
  • If planting out, prepare the soil in advance by digging over and removing any weeds.
  • Incorporate some well-rotted manure to enrich the soil if necessary.
  • Knock the plant from its container and look at the roots – if they are circling around the compost, it is best to tease them out. To do this, push your fingers into the root ball along the bottom edge and pull. Do this in a couple of places. This should encourage the roots to spread into the surrounding soil.
  • Next use a trowel or spade to create a hole just deep and wide enough to set in the root ball - the aim is to bury just the roots, leaving the bases of the stems (when in growth in summer) or the shoots (in spring) above ground.
  • Firm back around the soil, using your hand for small clumps and your heel on larger areas.
  • Water in well to settle the soil and prevent it drying out.

Aftercare Advice:

  • Keep plants well watered.
  • Lift and divide congested clumps in autumn or spring.
  • Remove faded flowers to encourage further blooms.

Pruning Advice:

  • Cut back immediately after flowering and a second flush of blooms may follow in the autumn.
