Description

These British Native Aconites emerge from the soil like bright yellow stars just as the spring days start to get a little longer.

Delightful yellow blooms make a perfect partner to the widely-grown spring favourite Snowdrops and they will look simply stunning when planted under trees, or in shaded parts of your garden.

Once planted, English Aconites will die back this season, and emerge stronger and better every year, slowly spreading out to gently cover small areas.

Aconites can be difficult to grow from dry bulbs, so to ensure success you should plant yours while they are in leaf, also known as 'in the green'. By planting in this way, you are guaranteed a stunning spring display starting from this season.

Supplied as a pack of 25 'in the green' bulbs, ready to plant out in February and March.

Top Tips
Leave aconites undisturbed once planted. They dislike being moved and reward patience with stronger displays every year. This is a hardy variety, so there's no need to lift bulbs for protection over the colder months.
Care Information
  • These English Aconites are supplied 'in the green', meaning they have been lifted while actively growing, usually with leaves and sometimes flowers already visible.
  • Plant them as soon as possible after delivery. Do not allow the roots to dry out. If planting is delayed by a day or two, keep them cool and shaded, with the roots lightly moist.

How To Plant:

  • Plant aconites with the roots spread out naturally in the soil.
  • They are ideal for planting in borders, under deciduous trees, in lawns or naturalised areas where they can spread gently over time. Firm the soil around them after planting.

Ongoing Care:

  • Water well after planting to settle the soil around the roots. Keep the ground lightly moist while they establish, especially in dry spells. Once settled, aconites rarely need additional watering.
  • Do not cut back the foliage while it is green. The leaves feed the bulb for next year's display. Once the foliage turns yellow and dies back naturally, it can be gently removed by hand.
  • Aconites are fully hardy and need no winter protection. Each year they will emerge early in the spring season, usually from February, flowering before many other plants. Over time, they will slowly spread to form cheerful yellow carpets.
