Description

Tillandsia 'Vincent', commonly known as the Pink Quill Plant, is a compact bromeliad that brings standout colour to your home. Its bright pink bract forms the centrepiece of the plant, rising above neat evergreen foliage and holding its colour for weeks. From this bract, delicate violet blue flowers emerge in spring or autumn.

Despite its exotic appearance, this plant remains manageable. Growing to around 20cm tall and wide, it suits modern homes where space is limited but you want excellent style. Narrow leaves form attractive rosettes, flushed with red at the base, ensuring interest even outside flowering periods.

As a rainforest native, it enjoys humid conditions and thrives particularly well in bright bathrooms and kitchens. With regular misting, it responds with healthy growth and vibrant colour. It works beautifully as a standalone feature or grouped with other tropical houseplants for a layered indoor display.

Supplied as an established houseplant in a 9cm pot, ready to plant.

Top Tips

A tip to get shy plants to flower is to let the water dry in the centre of the plant then place a plastic bag over the plant with a ripe banana inside for a week or so - the banana gives off ethylene gas which stimulates blooming.

When you have baby plants (pups) appearing at the side and the parent looks like it is starting to rot, leave the original in place, don't remove it as this will feed the growing plantlets.

Care Information

Aftercare of your Tillandsia Bromeliad:

  • Place your plant in bright indirect light in a warm, preferably humid room.
  • Mist the plant occasionally and stand in a tray of pebbles to increase humidity.
  • Keep the central well of the plant filled with rainwater from March to October. Over winter, keep it on the dry side, filling just occasionally and not fully.
  • Remember to also water the plant compost as well as the central well, leaving it just damp.
  • A very weak (quarter mix) of liquid houseplant feed once a month while in full growth can be poured into the rosette cup.

Pruning your Bromeliad:

  • No pruning is necessary, although any brown leaves can be trimmed.
  • Once flowering is over, leave the main rosette in place as it dies back.
