Description

Introduced by renowned agapanthus breeders De Wet, ‘Black Jack’ combines long-lasting flowers with valuable repeat-flowering performance, making it a particularly distinctive variety.

Near-black buds open around midsummer to reveal richly striped, black-purple flowers, forming dramatic rounded heads in some of the deepest tones found among agapanthus.

This striking perennial produces strong flower stems reaching around 1m tall, rising above fresh green, strap-like foliage. Even before the blooms appear, the leaves create an attractive architectural feature and build anticipation for the summer display.

Agapanthus are especially impressive in decorative patio pots and, with the right care, can provide many years of reliable colour. Place ‘Black Jack’ in a sunny position and enjoy its bold, exotic presence throughout summer.

Top Tips
You will often get more flowers when the roots are restricted, so this plant that does better in a pot - plus it can be easily moved to avoid the worst of the winter weather.
Care Information
  • Feed with a general-purpose fertiliser monthly from spring until flowering.
  • From the end of September reduce watering and feeding to allow the foliage to harden.
  • In colder parts of the UK, cover the crown of the plant with a deep, dry mulch to protect the plants from hard frosts, or grow in a pot so they can be overwintered in an unheated greenhouse.
