Description

Robust and popular, Privet Hedging is an evergreen favourite, bringing excellent foliage colour to your garden whatever the month.

Perfect for topiary and hedging, these golden 'Aureum' plants stand apart from traditional green varieties, with glossy green leaves attractively edged in golden yellow. Easy and reliable to grow, Privet develops at a fairly fast rate, soon forming a substantial hedge in a wide range of growing conditions, from full sun to partial shade.

Leave plants untrimmed to enjoy creamy clusters of fragrant summer flowers, which are loved by pollinators and followed by glossy black berries. The small, densely packed leaves are easy to trim and shape, making this an excellent choice for hedges of different sizes and styles. Trim a couple of times during summer to encourage dense growth.

Privet grows well in virtually any position, aside from overly wet soil, and is even suitable for coastal gardens. The plants are also resistant to pollution, making them an excellent choice for town and urban gardens where other plants may struggle to thrive.

Top Tips
These nursery-grown plants have an excellent root system ready for planting. Plant 15-45cm apart depending on how thick you want your hedge to be.
Care Information

Plants are fairly qucik to grow and appreciate a rich soil with a sprinkling of bonemeal to get them off to a good start.

Happy in most soils except really boggy soil, plants should nevertheless be kept well watered until established.

Once established all you need to do it clip your privet hedge in summer using a hedge trimmer or shears. If plants are old or out of shape they can be cut back into old wood as they will regrow.
