Description

Brighten your late summer garden with these Lobelia blooms. Ideal for adding height to beds, borders, or pots, these perennials erupt with bright scarlet red, two-lipped flowers from late summer to autumn. Purple stems provide interest, even when standing bare in spring.

'Queen Victoria' is a versatile variety for use across the garden, and is also a magnet for pollinators. Fully deserving its coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, you can be sure that this is a proven garden performer, guaranteed to be suitable for UK gardeners at every level of experience. You can therefore plant this in the garden with confidence, for stunning displays for many years to come.

Hardy to -5C in winter conditions, so offer them some protection from strong and cold winds in the winter. Position 'Queen Victoria' in either full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soils where it will thrive and provide you with a spectacular floral display. Cut back your faded blooms to encourage a longer flowering season.

Care Information

Planting Potted Lobelia:

  • Water your potted plant well before planting.
  • Dig a hole a little deeper and three times wider than the nursery pot.
  • Add a soil conditioner such as well-rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole.
  • Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.
  • Place your plant in the hole at the same level at the pot.
  • Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).
  • Firm in the spoil with you heel, avoiding the root ball.
  • Keep well-watered but avoid letting the plant sit in cold, wet soil in winter.
  • Cut back to the base in late autumn.
  • Divide plants every 2-3 years to maintain vigour.
