Description

Bring fresh, citrus-toned foliage to pots, patios and sheltered borders with Coprosma 'Lemon and Lime'. This compact evergreen shrub delivers bright yellow and lime-green leaves with a glossy, polished finish.

Also known as the Looking-Glass Plant, it is grown for its reflective foliage. The leaves look smart and colourful through the year, giving your garden spaces structure, shine and a clean look. As temperatures cool, the foliage becomes even more interesting, often taking on warmer orange tones through winter.

This variety suits patio containers beautifully. Its neat, rounded shape makes it excellent by entrances, seating areas and smaller garden spaces. It also sits well among other foliage plants, grasses and seasonal bedding, helping create a fuller, more designed display.

Coprosma 'Lemon and Lime' needs winter care in colder parts of the UK. Treat it as frost tender, protect from hard frosts and place in a sheltered spot with well-drained soil. In a container, simply move it somewhere protected when cold weather arrives.

Top Tips
  • Be sure to water well through the first year to help the roots to establish.
Care Information
  • Dig a planting hole three times the width of the roots you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the shrub is in place.
  • We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.
  • Before planting, soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow them to drain.
  • Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots. Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help quicker establishment.
  • Place your shrub in the hole at the same level as it was supplied in the nursery pot and refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).
  • Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well.
  • Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.
  • If you're planting into pots, place some old rocks, stones or gravel in the bottom of the pot for drainage and ballast and use the best compost you can buy and some sand or grit for drainage.
