Description

Strawberry 'Sweet Summer' is a superb everbearing variety, producing generous crops of large, conical berries packed with sweet, juicy flavour. Instead of delivering one short flush, this productive plant keeps cropping through summer and into autumn, often continuing until the first frosts.

The berries are firm, richly flavoured and perfect for eating straight from the plant, adding to desserts, serving with cream or using in homemade jams and preserves. Each plant can produce a heavy crop across the season.

This variety also keeps growth neat and manageable, producing fewer runners than many traditional strawberries. That makes it a brilliant choice for patio pots, raised beds, grow bags and smaller gardens, as well as fruit beds and vegetable patches.

Easy to grow, reliable and naturally tidy, 'Sweet Summer' is ideal for gardeners who want delicious homegrown fruit without complicated care. Plant in a sunny spot, keep well watered, feed during the growing season and enjoy a long harvest of fresh strawberries from the garden.

Top Tips
  • Pick your strawberries first thing in the morning, when fruit is at its juiciest, and pick only ripe red fruit as orange berries won’t have developed their full flavour.
  • Pick the strawberries carefully, complete with their stalks and green calyxes.
Care Information
  • Strawberry plants need a good six to eight hours of full sun a day for optimal fruit production, so place your pot somewhere sunny.
  • Strawberry containers should be watered daily and will need regular feeding (once a month until blooming) due to the limited amount of nutrients in the pot.
  • Water regularly to prevent the plants drying out. When watering, try not to get the fruit wet.
  • Feed your strawberry pot at least once a month until flowering and then every ten days with a liquid feed that is high in potassium and low in nitrogen, such as our own liquid strawberry feed.
  • Fruit should be picked as soon as berries are red, if possible, in dry weather, taking care to leave the green stalk in place once fruit is picked.
