Description
This Hydrangea keeps your summer display moving! 'Living Candy Love' flowers for around 100 days, changing its appearance as the season progresses with three distinct colours from one established shrub.
The show begins with clean white flowers in July. Around four weeks later, the blooms take on a soft, light-pink tone through August, before maturing to a deep, rich pink in September. It is a simple way to give the same bed or border a fresh look month after month, without replanting or changing the display.
Its Bronze KVBC Award adds recognised distinction, while its substantial growth creates real presence in the garden. Reaching approximately 130cm tall and 150cm wide, this is a broad, impressive Hydrangea that will hold its own among established shrubs and perennials. Two plants will fill around 1m², making it easy to create a generous sweep of long-lasting summer colour.
Despite its striking scale and lengthy flower show, 'Living Candy Love' is exceptionally easy to grow. It is fully winter hardy to -30C, ready to cope with severe cold and return for another season. Plant it in a bed, border or roomy patio container where its changing blooms can be enjoyed up close.
Top Tips
Hydrangeas love to be kept well watered, and will produce bigger, glossier, more substantial leaves when provided with regular moisture.
Try to use rainwater to water hydrangeas, since mains hard water can affect the flower colour.
Care Information
- A hydrangea is at its best in moist soil as long as it is well drained, in sun or partial shade. The more sun the plant gets, the better the flower colour.
- A moisture-loving plant, remember to water regularly and deeply.
- Hardy in the UK, frost can cause a lot of damage to young buds, reducing the number of flowers, so it’s advisable to protect your plant with fleece if freezing weather is likely.
- Pruning is generally best carried out early spring. A general tidy up is usually all that is needed and consists of removing the dead bloom from each stem, cutting back to the first strong, healthy pair of buds down from the faded flower.
- As Hydrangeas flower on the previous year's growth, cut out 1 or 2 of the oldest stems, in spring, at the base to encourage the production of new, replacement growth that will carry more flowers.
