Description

Few plants make a patio or conservatory feel as instantly uplifting as citrus trees. This collection gives you two established fruiting varieties, one orange and one lemon, plus specialist summer feed to support strong seasonal growth.

The orange tree produces fragrant white blossom in late spring and early summer, followed by seedless fruits that ripen later in the year. The lemon tree brings its own Mediterranean character, with sweetly scented flowers and full-sized lemons that can ripen from late summer into the end of the year once the plant is settled and growing well.

Even before the fruit arrives, these are handsome ornamental trees. Their glossy evergreen leaves keep containers looking leafy and full, while the blossom adds scent, charm and a real holiday feel to patios, balconies, bright porches and conservatories.

Grow in containers so the trees can be moved easily. Place outside in a sunny, sheltered position from around June to September, then bring them into a cool, bright, frost-free spot for winter. Water freely in summer, reduce watering in winter and feed through the growing season.

The included Citrus Summer Feed gives hungry potted citrus the targeted nutrition they need through the growing season, supporting strong leafy growth, healthier plants and better fruiting potential.

Supplied as an established orange tree in a 4 litre pot, approximately 60-90cm tall, one established lemon tree in a 4 litre pot, approximately 70-90cm tall, plus one 200g tub of Citrus Summer Feed.

How to use Vitax Citrus Summer Feed:

  • Mix 5g (1 teaspoon) of Vitax Citrus Summer Feed in 2.5 litres (4 pints) water and apply weekly from April to September.
  • Ensure the compost does not dry out between feeds, keeping sil moist, but not waterlogged.

Top Tips
  • For best results, bring indoors to a cool area for winter.
  • Feed with specialist feed every month in spring and summer growth - they are hungry fellows.
  • Care Information
    • The sweetly fragrant blossom appears in the late spring and can sometimes continue to flower sporadically over the rest of the year. Especially in late winter, and fruit ripens up to 12 months later - so plants are often in flower and fruiting at the same time.
    • Citrus tend not to thrive in centrally heated homes, so from mid-Jun to late September, give plants a treat and transfer them outside to make the most of the available sunshine - but remember they are not frost tolerant so will need bringing under cover if cold nights threaten.
    • Only minimal pruning is required to reshape or remove dead or damaged shoots.

    Watering:

    • In summer, water freely - ideally using rainwater, while in winter you can reduce the amount - allowing the surface to partially dry out before watering again. Always allow excess water to drain away.
    • Our beautiful Mediterranean citrus trees are grown in a slightly heavier growing medium, so be sure to take care when watering. Be sure not to overwater, as with all your plants, but also make sure not to allow the soil to dry out.
