Description

Hydrangea 'Groundbreaker Ruby' is the revolutionary new ground-covering paniculata hydrangea that grows more sideways than upwards, spreading up to 70-80cm wide whilst staying at just 30-40cm tall!

No towering stems, no staking, and no complicated pruning. Just a beautifully compact, richly branched, spreading mound of stunning foliage and extraordinary flowers.

From July right through to November, for a full 100 days, masses of conical flower panicles open across the plant in a spectacular colour journey. They start pristine white, deepen to soft pink as summer progresses, and finally reach rich, glowing ruby tones as autumn arrives.

Fully hardy, disease resistant, and attractive to pollinators throughout its season. Wonderful at the front of a border, alongside pathways, tumbling over a low wall, or as a striking feature in a large patio container.

Supplied as an established plant in a 14cm pot, ready to plant.

Top Tips

Hydrangeas love to be kept well watered, and will produce bigger, glossier, more substantial leaves when provided with regular moisture.

Try to use rainwater to water hydrangeas, since mains hard water can affect the flower colour.

Care Information

This plant is at its best in most soil as long as it is well drained, in sun or partial shade. The more sun the plant gets, the better the flower colour.
A moisture-loving plant, remember to water regularly and deeply.
Hardy in the UK, frost can cause a lot of damage to young buds, reducing the number of flowers, so it�s advisable to protect your plant with fleece if freezing weather is likely.
Pruning is generally best carried out early spring. A general tidy up is usually all that is needed and consists of removing the dead bloom from each stem, cutting back to the first strong, healthy pair of buds down from the faded flower.
As Hydrangeas flower on the previous year's growth, cut out 1 or 2 of the oldest stems, in spring, at the base to encourage the production of new, replacement growth that will carry more flowers.

Delivery Information

Our experienced team at the nursery will always carefully package and send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive once you receive and plant them. Although most plants are extremely tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme of weather conditions, we always avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme frosts or heat is forecast. We also avoid dispatching orders over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. If you have ordered a 'pre-order' item, these will be sent out as soon as possible after the quoted dispatch date and we generally ship your entire order with any pre-ordered items. Once your order has been dispatched, we will send you an email with details on how you can track it.

We send most of our orders via a fully tracked courier service with Yodel. We will send you a tracking link as soon as your order has been dispatched. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, we will not require a signature on delivery, and we ask out couriers to leave your item in a safe place ad your delivery address.

If you have delivery instruction and require our courier to leave your item in a specific place, please let us know - there is an option to leave a message for the courier at the checkout.

For smaller and single-item orders, we may send these via the post with Royal Mail - Tracking will not be available for orders sent via this method.
