Description

Fast-growing evergreen hedges that introduce a welcome screen to your garden, helping to soften unwanted incoming noise. The foliage is dense and glossy, with attractive apple-green leaves.

Enjoy interest throughout the year, whatever the season, with large, broad oval leaves from spring to spring, dainty yellow flowers in spring and occasional ornamental purple berries in autumn.

Make an impact with these dense, upright-growing hedges, ideal for borders and screening. Generally pest-free and tolerant of most soil conditions, they are easy to grow even in positions where other hedging plants may have struggled to thrive.

A simple trim to shape in spring will keep them looking neat and tidy. They establish quickly into mature plants, growing at an approximate rate of 20-40cm each year.

Top Tips

This variety prefers to grow in well-drained soil, so is one of the most suitable hedges for growing in coastal areas.
When planting multiple together, aim for four plants per metre, for a single line hedge.

Care Information

Planting Advice:

Grow in full sun, whether exposed or sheltered.
Dig a planting hole three times the width of existing roots and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the shrub is in place.
We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as new roots, once they reach the edges, tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole, whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.
Before planting soak container-grown hedges thoroughly and allow to drain.
Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.
Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.
Place your hedge in the hole at the same level at the pot and refill the hole with the earth removed, in a process called backfilling.
Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well.
Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.

Aftercare advice:

Keep plants well-watered while they establish.
Hardy in winter conditions down to -15C, protect from cold winds as it is these that tend to cause the most damage to young plants.

Pruning Advice:

Hedges may be trimmed in spring or autumn to keep them tidy and shapely, if pruning at the end of the season (when growth has finished), do it before the onset of very cold weather.

Although most plants are extremely tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme of weather conditions, we always avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme frosts or heat is forecast. We also avoid dispatching orders over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. If you have ordered a 'pre-order' item, these will be sent out as soon as possible after the quoted dispatch date and we generally ship your entire order with any pre-ordered items. Once your order has been dispatched, we will send you an email with details on how you can track it.

We send most of our orders via a fully tracked courier service with Yodel. We will send you a tracking link as soon as your order has been dispatched. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, we will not require a signature on delivery, and we ask out couriers to leave your item in a safe place ad your delivery address.
