MORE INFORMATION
Coreopsis is a naturally rugged prairie plant and ideally suited to today's low maintenance gardens. ‘Moonbeam’ forms compact mounds of dense thread-like foliage and its delightful golden centred pale yellow flowers are carried on tall stems, above fine, feathery foliage - which gives them another alternative name of threadleaf, while their more common name, 'tickseed,' refers to the seeds which are said to resemble ticks and these are a great favourite of garden finches. Easy to grow, drought tolerant, and long blooming, Coreopsis certainly earn their keep in a sunny flower border, rewarding you with plenty of flowers for very little effort on your behalf. Recommended by the RHS as a 'Plant for Pollinators', the flowers are produced through the summer and are a favourite with butterflies and bees. Compact and robust, it's definitely a plant for the front of the border or a mixed container – versatile and easy. Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, ready for planting.

CARE INFORMATION

Top Tips

  • Deadhead plants regularly to keep them blooming through the summer.

Care Guide

Planting Advice for Coreopsis verticillata

  • Grow in full sun in soil that drains well.
  • Before planting, prepare the soil by digging over and removing any weeds.
  • Individually knock out each plant from its container. Look at the roots – if they are circling around the compost, it is best to tease them out. To do this, push your fingers into the rootball along the bottom edge and pull. Do this in a couple of places. This should encourage the roots to spread into the surrounding soil.
  • Next use a trowel or spade to create a hole just deep and wide enough to set in the rootball.
  • The aim is to bury just the roots, leaving the bases of the stems (when in growth in summer) or the shoots (in spring) above ground.
  • Firm back around the soil, using your hand for small clumps and your heel on larger areas.
  • Water in well to settle the soil and prevent desiccation.

Aftercare Advice for your Tickseed

  • Coreopsis will need regular water when first planted until they are established. After that, they are quite drought tolerant.

Pruning Advice for Coreopsis

  • Deadheading will keep the plants blooming throughout the summer.
Leave the stems on the plant sfor autumn and winter interesty, before tiding up in late winter.
