Description

Agapanthus 'Fireworks' is a bold, sculptural summer showpiece, with upright stems, elegant strap-like foliage and bi-coloured trumpet blooms that look as if they have been painted for maximum impact.

The flowers open from pale buds and develop into a dramatic two-tone display, with rich bases and flaring lighter tips. It is a colour combination rarely seen in African lilies, and it gives pots, borders, patios and balconies a real designer feel from mid-summer into early autumn.

This variety is also relatively compact for an Agapanthus. Grow it in a large patio pot, place it beside a sunny seating area, or use it as a statement plant in a border. It brings height without taking over, and the architectural foliage looks smart even before the flowers arrive.

The stems make striking cut flowers for indoor arrangements, while the dried seed heads can be used for winter decoration, especially if sprayed for seasonal displays.

For best results, grow Agapanthus 'Fireworks' in a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil or compost. It is half-hardy, so it dislikes cold, wet winter conditions. If planted in the ground, protect the crown with a thick, dry mulch in winter. If grown in a pot, move it to a dry, frost-free place if temperatures fall below -5C.

Top Tips

You will often get more flowers when the roots are restricted, so definitely a plant that does better in a pot (plus it can be moved out of the worst of the winter weather).

Care Information

Feed with a general-purpose fertiliser monthly from spring until flowering.
From the end of September, reduce watering and feeding to allow the foliage to harden.
In colder parts of the UK, cover the crown of the plant with a deep, dry mulch to protect the plants from hard frosts
Alternatively, grow in a pot so they can be overwintered in an unheated greenhouse.

Delivery Information

Our experienced team at the nursery will always carefully package and send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive once you receive and plant them. Although most plants are extremely tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme of weather conditions, we always avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme frosts or heat is forecast. We also avoid dispatching orders over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. If you have ordered a 'pre-order' item, these will be sent out as soon as possible after the quoted dispatch date and we generally ship your entire order with any pre-ordered items. Once your order has been dispatched, we will send you an email with details on how you can track it.

We send most of our orders via a fully tracked courier service with Yodel. We will send you a tracking link as soon as your order has been dispatched. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, we will not require a signature on delivery, and we ask out couriers to leave your item in a safe place ad your delivery address.

If you have delivery instruction and require our courier to leave your item in a specific place, please let us know - there is an option to leave a message for the courier at the checkout.

For smaller and single-item orders, we may send these via the post with Royal Mail - Tracking will not be available for orders sent via this method.
