Description

Bring lasting golden colour and soft, flowing texture to your garden with this tough, evergreen Lomandra.

Lomandra 'Miner's Gold' gives borders, containers and mixed planting schemes a bright lift all year round. Its golden-yellow foliage forms a graceful, weeping mound, bringing warmth and movement where many plants sit flat or fade away outside the main flowering season.

This is a superb choice for softening hard edges, edging paths, filling patio pots or weaving through mixed borders. The cascading habit looks especially effective alongside dark-leaved shrubs, architectural evergreens and colourful perennials.

It is fully hardy, low maintenance and impressively practical too. Grow it in sun or partial shade, then enjoy strong garden performance with very little fuss once established. Its drought tolerance, wind resistance and ability to cope with poorer soils make it a valuable problem-solver for awkward areas, exposed spots and busy gardeners who still want polished, reliable colour.

Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, ready to grow on or plant out.

Top Tips
Water regularly while the plant is establishing, particularly in dry spells. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Care Information

Planting:

  • Lomandra 'Miners Gold' thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. Avoid areas prone to waterlogging, as it dislikes sitting in excess moisture.
  • If your soil is heavy or clay-based, improve drainage by mixing in grit, sand, or organic matter like compost.
  • Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and place the plant at the same depth it was in the pot. Backfill with soil and firm it down gently.
  • After planting, give the plant a deep soak to help settle the roots into their new home.

Planting in a Pot:

  • Choose a large pot with drainage holes to allow excess water to escape. A pot at least 30cm in diameter will give the roots room to establish.
  • A mix of multi-purpose compost with added grit or perlite works well to prevent waterlogging.
  • Place the plant at the same level as it was in its nursery pot and backfill with compost, pressing it in firmly.
  • After planting, water thoroughly and allow excess moisture to drain away.

Aftercare Advice:

  • Lomandra is very drought-tolerant and only needs occasional watering in prolonged dry periods.
  • Container-grown plants dry out more quickly, so check the soil moisture weekly and water when the top few centimetres feel dry.
  • Hardy to -10C, Lomandra 'Miners Gold' can withstand frost but may benefit from a mulch layer around the base in very harsh winters.
  • Container plants are more vulnerable to frost - Move pots to a sheltered spot or wrap them in fleece during severe cold snaps.
  • Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser once in spring and again in mid-summer to promote healthy foliage and strong growth.
  • If growing in a container, a slow-release fertiliser applied in spring will ensure nutrients are available over a longer period.
