Description

Trollius x cultorum 'Full Moon' brings colour and structure to cooler, damper parts of your garden, rather than leaving those spaces looking forgotten.

This hardy perennial produces distinctive double blooms in a soft lemon-yellow shade, with each flower forming a rounded, globe-like shape above fresh green foliage. Flowering in late spring and early summer, it arrives to bridge the gap between early spring bulbs and the fuller displays of summer perennials.

'Full Moon' thrives in moisture-retentive soil, so it suits damp borders, pond edges, woodland-style planting and lightly shaded corners. The upright stems keep the flowers lifted and visible, while the deeply divided leaves add attractive texture at ground level.

Once established, this clump-forming perennial needs little fuss and returns reliably year after year. The cheerful blooms also help attract bees and beneficial insects.

Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, ready to plant.

Top Tips
Remove faded flower stems after blooming to keep the plant looking tidy. Leave the foliage in place while it remains green, as this helps feed the plant for the following year. Cut back old, tired foliage in autumn once it has died down naturally.
Care Information

What To Do With Your Trollius On Arrival:

  • Unpack your plants as soon as they arrive and check the compost. If it feels dry, stand the pot in a tray of water for 10 to 20 minutes, then allow it to drain.
  • Keep the plant somewhere cool, bright and sheltered for a day or two before planting, especially if the weather is hot, windy or frosty.

How To Plant Trollius:

  • Plant Trollius in moist, fertile soil that does not dry out for long periods.
  • It is ideal for damp borders, pond edges, woodland-style planting and lightly shaded spots. Choose a position in full sun or partial shade.
  • Water the plant well before planting.
  • Dig a hole slightly larger than the 9cm nursery pot, then gently remove the plant, keeping the rootball intact.
  • Set it into the hole at the same depth it was growing in the pot, backfill with soil and firm gently.
  • Water thoroughly after planting.

Ongoing Care:

  • Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the first growing season while the plant establishes. Trollius dislikes drying out, so water during dry spells, particularly in spring and summer. Plants in pots will need more regular watering than those in the ground.
  • In spring, apply a general-purpose fertiliser or mulch around the base with compost or well-rotted organic matter. Avoid very dry, poor soil, as this can reduce growth and flowering.
  • Trollius is hardy and should return year after year. In colder areas, add a light mulch around the crown in autumn to help protect the roots and improve soil moisture. Avoid planting in very dry winter positions or permanently waterlogged soil.
