Description

Peony 'London' is living proof that big impact doesn't always require big space. This compact variety has been carefully selected for its ability to thrive in pots and smaller gardens while still producing the bold, dramatic flowers that make peonies such icons of summer.

From late spring into early summer, you'll see large, double blooms opening in deep, vibrant pink, in the kind of colour that refuses to be ignored. Each flower is a masterpiece of layered petals, rich and full, giving you a display that feels indulgent and celebratory.

This is a hardy, perennial plant that takes care of itself once settled. It dies back gracefully each winter, then re-emerges each spring with renewed strength, bigger and better blooms, and a fresh burst of energy. Long-lived, low maintenance, and utterly dependable.

Its size makes it versatile. In containers, it creates a stunning focal point that you can enjoy up close on a patio or balcony. In borders, it slips easily into planting schemes without dominating, blending well with perennials like delphiniums, geraniums, and ornamental grasses. And when cut for indoors, its blooms last beautifully in a vase, adding a sense of luxury to the home.

Top Tips

Be careful not to overwater newly planted Peonies, especially those that have been planted into decorative pots rather than the ground. They are best kept slightly on the dry side!

Care Information

Despite the myths that surround them, peonies are easy to grow.
They need plenty of water, but take care not to waterlog them, so plant your peonies in soil that drains well. Clay is fine as long as it doesn't stay wet.
Peonies flower at their best in full sun, but they will tolerate light shade too.
Feed with a general fertiliser in spring, but avoid over-feeding with high nitrogen fertilisers.
To conserve moisture and suppress weeds, mulch around the crown with 5-7.5cm (2-3in) organic matter. Avoid covering the crown itself.
The flower stems may not be strong enough to keep the often-heavy flamboyant flowers upright and staking is often required.
It is generally best to cut the foliage to ground level as it dies back in the autumn to reduce risk of peony wilt.
Peonies seldom need to be divided or moved, but if necessary it should be carried out only in the autumn.

Although most plants are extremely tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme of weather conditions, we always avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme frosts or heat is forecast. We also avoid dispatching orders over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. If you have ordered a 'pre-order' item, these will be sent out as soon as possible after the quoted dispatch date and we generally ship your entire order with any pre-ordered items. Once your order has been dispatched, we will send you an email with details on how you can track it.

We send most of our orders via a fully tracked courier service with Yodel. We will send you a tracking link as soon as your order has been dispatched. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, we will not require a signature on delivery, and we ask out couriers to leave your item in a safe place ad your delivery address.

If you have delivery instruction and require our courier to leave your item in a specific place, please let us know - there is an option to leave a message for the courier at the checkout.

For smaller and single-item orders, we may send these via the post with Royal Mail - Tracking will not be available for orders sent via this method.
