Description

'Celebrity' is the go-to peony for instant glamour. The flowers are bold and generous, packed with layers of raspberry pink petals and highlighted by creamy white splashes in the centre that make each bloom look hand painted. Add the rich, classic peony fragrance and you have a plant that is as irresistible up close as it is across the garden.

Buds swell and open in May and June, carrying the display from late spring into early summer. The habit is naturally tidy, reaching up to 80cm tall with a rounded shape. It fits happily in borders and performs brilliantly in a large patio pot.

In a mixed border, pair 'Celebrity' with delphiniums, hardy geraniums, salvia and roses for a lush cottage feel, or set it against grasses for a cleaner, modern contrast. The flowers look beautiful indoors, making luxurious cut arrangements that last well.

Growing it is straightforward. Choose fertile, well-drained soil and a sunny position with some shelter from strong winds. Water while it establishes, avoid waterlogging, and give the plant space for air to circulate. Peonies are naturally hardy and long lived, building a stronger display each year once settled.

Supplied as a bare root with 2-3 eyes, ready to plant.

Top Tips

Be careful not to overwater newly planted Peonies, especially those that have been planted into decorative pots rather than the ground. They are best kept slightly on the dry side!

Care Information

Despite the myths that surround them, peonies are easy to grow.
They need plenty of water, but take care not to waterlog them, so plant your peonies in soil that drains well.
Clay is fine as long as it doesn't stay wet.
Peonies flower at their best in full sun, but they will tolerate light shade too.
Feed with a general fertiliser in spring, but avoid over-feeding with high nitrogen fertilisers.
To conserve moisture and suppress weeds, mulch around the crown with 5-7.5cm organic matter.
Avoid covering the crown itself.
The flower stems may not be strong enough to keep the often-heavy flamboyant flowers upright and staking is often required.
It is generally best to cut the foliage to ground level as it dies back in the autumn to reduce risk of peony wilt.
Peonies seldom need to be divided or moved, but if necessary it should be carried out only in the autumn.

Although most plants are extremely tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme of weather conditions, we always avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme frosts or heat is forecast. We also avoid dispatching orders over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. If you have ordered a 'pre-order' item, these will be sent out as soon as possible after the quoted dispatch date and we generally ship your entire order with any pre-ordered items. Once your order has been dispatched, we will send you an email with details on how you can track it.

We send most of our orders via a fully tracked courier service with Yodel. We will send you a tracking link as soon as your order has been dispatched. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, we will not require a signature on delivery, and we ask out couriers to leave your item in a safe place ad your delivery address.
