'Pink Delicious' Apple Tree

Luscious apples with a unique red centre in abundance! With pinkish centres and a remarkably sweet taste, 'Pink Delicious' apples are at the front of the queue to be your new favourite. A wonderful waft of beautiful pink blossom erupts in April and May, before making way for impressive blush-red fruits.

Sweeter than many other varieties, ‘Pink Delicious’ boast a crisp, yet tangy, taste to be incredibly refreshing on the palate. The fruit will be ripe and ready for picking from the end of September until early October. Enjoy a mass of fruits as this tree is a heavier cropper than many others.

Do not feel concerned if you are left with an abundance of fruits, as the apples will keep in an excellent condition for up to six weeks when stored in a cool place. If you want to experience an even bigger crop, be sure to thin down the growth, by removing excess fruits. This will even enhance the taste and colour of the apples.

The tree will be fully grown after around seven years, when it will reach a height of 3m, and a spread of 2m, although can be kept significantly smaller, uniform, and compact, when pruned.

Supplied as a bare root tree, roughly 1.2 - 1.4m tall, on an M9 rootstock, ready for planting.

Top Tips

Care Guide

• Pick an appropriate spot for your apple tree by making sure there is plenty of space to grow to its full size.
• Dig a hole twice the width of the roots, forking over the bottom to loosen the soil, and add some good quality fertiliser such as Blood Fish & Bone (wash your hands afterwards!).
• Aim to plant at the same depth as the soil mark on the trunk.
• Holding the tree upright in position with one hand, slowly backfill the hole with soil, and gently shake the plant, so the soil falls back around the roots.
• Use your heel to compact the soil around the plant to ensure good contact is made around the roots.
• If you're planting into pots, place some old rocks, stones, or gravel in the bottom of the pot for drainage and ballast.
• Apply a slow-release fertiliser such as in early spring, and mulch to retain moisture.
• Water well across the first two years of establishment. 
• Add Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi to the roots when planting to help establish your tree more quickly.
• 'Pink Delicious' responds well to many different types of pruning style, just be sure to take off diseased, dying or damaged branches at the end of winter. 
• Be sure the soil around the base of the tree remains weed-free at all times.
