MORE INFORMATION
A rarely available, vibrant selection of the popular stripy Zebra Grass, Miscanthus 'Little Zebra' has attractive gold striping and fluffy plumes of deep red-pink flowers. A dwarfing variety, the compact mound of foliage holds its form well, so is ideal for adding texture and colour to pots and garden borders. It also changes colour to a lovely pale almond over the winter to add extended seasonal interest. From August to September, the deep red-pink plumes of flower appear, gracefully arching over the clump. Gradually fading to silver as the winter approaches, they curl and contrast wonderfully with the leaves and give rise to the little beauty's other name of Japanese Silver Grass.Supplied as 3 x established plants in 9cm pots, ready to be planted straight out. Will grow to a height and spread of approx. 1m (3ft).

CARE INFORMATION

Top Tips

Keep 'Little Zebra' well-watered and trim back to 10cm (4in) in late winter.

Care Guide

  • Before planting, prepare the soil by digging over and removing any weeds. Incorporate some well-rotted manure to enrich the soil if necessary.
  • When planting a number of perennials, arrange them on the surface so you can see how they will look before planting.
  • Individually knock out each plant from its container. Look at the roots if they are circling around the compost, it is best to tease them out. To do this, push your fingers into the root ball along the bottom edge and pull. Do this in a couple of places. This should encourage the roots to spread into the surrounding soil.
  • Next use a trowel or spade to create a hole just deep and wide enough to set in the root ball.
  • The aim is to bury just the roots, leaving the bases of the stems (when in growth in summer) or the shoots (in spring) above ground.
  • Firm back around the soil, using your hand for small clumps and your heel on larger areas.
  • Water in well to settle the soil and prevent desiccation.
