Reaching its ultimate height of up to 8 metres in a span of 20 to 50 years, Ilex golden king is an impressive tree to cherish and enjoy for a lifetime. The shrub boasts dark evergreen foliage all year round that’s embellished with a golden yellow trim. If you’re particularly lucky, sometimes fully golden leaves bloom like a prized piece of treasure. Small delicate white flowers flourish in spring which are followed by reddish brown berries budding in the autumn.
As well as its stunning appearance, Ilex Golden King boosts wildlife through its excellent pollinating properties. The shrub is highly attractive to bees, birds, butterflies, and beneficial insects as well as providing a nutritious food source for caterpillars. Bees and butterflies love its nectar rich flowers whilst birds appreciate the seeds that bud from the berries.
